Merging pictures in Photoshop

This step by step tutorial with screenshots will show you how to merge multiple pictures together to create a completely different picture. PSD Download also included.

First find your main picture, it will serve as your template, and most likely is the background of your final product.

Next find the other pictures you want you use, in this case there’s only one other picture I want to use.

Bring the pictures together in one workspace, make sure each picture is in it’s own layer.

Mess with the blend settings for each layer, in this case I found that the overlay mode made the clouds blend in very well with my original picture.

Clean up the edges, erase the edges that don’t blend, it’s best to use a brush style eraser.

Looks alot better doesn’t it?

Adjust the color, levels, or brightness/contrast of the pictures to make them more alike.

I lowered the brightness a little and brought up the contrast. And it looks just about finished. Hmm.. lets add another picture.

This picture will do, we’ll make it look like the photographer is flying by the mountain scene in a plane.

First things first, we have to bring it into our workspace. In another layer of course.

Next we’ll select the border of the window so we can erase the old view. Set the selection feather to 5px or some amount relative to your picture so the edges don’t come out all rough and can blend better.

Looks good, but lets add an outer glow to reestablish that a window exists.

Finally we’ll make a copy of the background layer, put it on top, and set it to hue.  This will integrate the colors of the background into the window.

And that’s it! If you would like to download the psd file for this tutorial click here.
